O man! Projects for DAYS!!!
Let's see.....Chris (and me for part of the time), put in the new garage door. What an adventure!
First, of all, we realized that we did not carefully think about how we loaded the door into the 1st Choice van...mistake #1. We loaded it on top of the sharp edges of the metal shelving, cabinets and extinguisher and to our delight, we pulled the door out and found a couple of dings and dents which would later serve as a helpful obstacle for this project.
Putting the door in: Whoever built this house did NOT do a very good job. We spent about 5.5 hours trying to fit the dang frame into the door and everything was still a little off center. We were having problems with a small gap at the top of the door. BUT, after much perserverence, starvation and some bickering, it was successfully accomplished.
THEN, we had this wonderful idea of painting the door a dark "expresso" brown. The first coat was easy....until we could still see the wonderful dings from our transportation mishap! O happy day! We found a good solution to our predicament however. Chris ended up filling the dents with some putty-like substance. But sanding it was a pain, and then there were the dog hairs and more sanding, getting high off the paint fumes....OI!!! Needless to say, Chris did a WONDERFULLY fantastic job and you can't even tell there were dings in it at all!!! We even put in new dark brown/black door handles! The door looks pretty darn sexy :) Future summer project: painting all the doors in the hallway brown.
Next project: The gravel-on-the-side-of-the-house-project. Yay! Another fun way waste your time is thru manual labor! Me and Chris are determined to get this project done TODAY! We spent HOURS digging the clay pit and are finally able to lay down the rock. Chris picked up Chi's trailer yesterday (about 1.5 hours trip in itself) and then drove to a landscaping place and picked up 2 yards (equivalent to 6 thousand lbs) of gravel. The drive home was interesting. We layed down the weed guard and shoveled ALL The gravel into the clay-dug pit. The weather was perfect: slightly chilly with a light shower right when were finishing up. The rock looks great, the boards we laid looked strait and we are looking forward to shoveling another 1/2 yard to finish up the end. Chris will have to cap the sprinklers and put in the last board today and hopefully we'll get it all done tonight. Our neigherbor Juan has been generous enough to share some bark he will be acquiring while he is spiffing up his house to sell. Whew! Another one knocked out!
We hung out with Carlos last Saturday. Watched some Michael Jordan biography, played some (crappy) guitar Hero II and ended up watchin' a little bit of "I am Legend" starring Will Smith with wonderful musical accompaniment from Carlos during the movie (he fell asleep and was snoring, he has no shame, LOL). All in all, it was good wholesome fun!
I'm sooo excited! Robin will be coming to Hillsboro tomorrow! This will be her first trip (with Tan) to Hillsborito by herself! I'm excited, i hope that she drives safely. Can't wait to see the new ride. Don't know what we're going to do yet (besides shop). But I'll be happy to see her :)
I'd like to restate again for how thankful I am for the Savior's love in my life. He truly does bring happiness and joy to all those who seek His guidance and follow His commandments. Me and Chris have received many wonderful blessings and are looking forward to what the future holds. I am a better individual b/c I have the Savior (and Chris) in my life. I do have a testimony that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the true and restored church for the latter days. I have a testimony that this church can really change your life in the most positive and best way. I love my Savior and His teachings, I love my family, Chris's family, my friends and am thankful for the wonderful influences that I have in this life. I am grateful for the time that I have here on earth and I say these things humbly in the name of thy Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.
